Spice up dinner this weekend with simple ideas taken from over-the-top designer tablescapes. At DIFFA's DINING BY DESIGN events, designers create 3-D dining installations that push boundaries, inspire guests and set the stage for fundraising. Yes, these tables are, by definition, extravagant. But that doesn't mean they aren't filled with small, simple take-home tips that you can put in place for tonight!
Today's table: Ralph Lauren's outdoor dining set-up. The rustic wood and hanging lanterns give a rugged feel, while the crisp white chairs and neatly arranged flowers keep the tablescape fresh.
Table Idea #1 Eat Outside
No need to wait for pool weather to enjoy dining outdoors. With the sun staying out later everyday, take advantage of the additional light and warming temperatures.
Table Idea #2 Lighten Up
Sure, your wall-mounted outdoor lighting is bright enough, but why not have a little fun for style's sake? Lanterns and strings of bulbs create a warm, cozy atmosphere.
Tables Idea #3 Mix the Chairs
We're not saying bring out the basement folding chairs for additional seating. (Use them for garage sale merchandise instead.) But Lauren's tablescape does a nice job of incorporating similar, yet slightly varied, seating options. All chairs are kept a crisp, clean white that brightens the decor. Various heights and angles are used to add a bit of dimension and fun to the setting.
