In Random Recast, we give ordinary things a more stylish second life. This week: Egg cartons.

In this innovative chandelier by Otero Design Studio, egg cartons become an unexpected lampshade. Like in the seat project, this one uses commercial egg cartons instead of the typical grocery store version. While this is more of an inspiration end of the spectrum, there is a way to DIY. First, cut out the bottom of each cup. Then, to get the cartons to form a drum shape, soak them with water and bend around a paint can. Let dry in place. (You can keep the egg cartons in position by wrapping them with rope.)
