After spring's flush of flowering trees it's good to know that it is not all over. Plant Stewartia pseudocamellia (Japanese stewartia) for its large, pure white flowers that open in midsummer. The tree is also renowned for its silky bark and beautifully intense fall color. If you prefer to plant a native tree, look for Stewartia ovata (Mountain stewartia). Both species like rich, well drained soil with plenty of moisture. Hardy from Zones 5-8.
